The City of Bastrop is accepting applications for the position of Maintenance Worker II in the Public Works Department. Experience in operating light to medium equipment in construction, repair and maintenance of City streets and roadways. Street work includes repairing asphalt, finishing cement, and removing debris from drains and culverts. Applicants must be 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED; supplemented by vocational training; supplemented by six (6) months of street maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Salary will start at $10.40/hr. This position requires a valid State of Texas driver’s license. Physical requirements of the job include frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, working in confined spaces and lifting/carrying of moderate (12-20 pounds) and or in some instances heavy (20-50 pound) items and occasionally heavier (100 pounds plus). This position requires exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as dirt, rain, poison ivy and oak, strong odors and/or smoke, exposure to dust/pollen, heat/cold or extreme weather conditions. Requires the ability to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Supervisors, fellow employees and the public. Under the direction of the Public Works Director, the Recreation Coordinator will perform a variety of duties associated with administrative assistance and support to the parks and recreation department while providing management and direction of recreational programming. Candidate must be able to plan, develop, organize, direct, and supervise recreational programs and activities, coordinating with other recreational organizations within the City for special events. Able to accurately estimate budgets for each program/event, monitor revenue and expenses throughout the program/event, and report the financial and participation results on a regular basis. Ideal candidates must have outstanding interpersonal and leadership skills with strong communication skills.
